There are many advantages to using truck bed tarps. They are used for a wide range of purposes, such as camping and cleaning up debris, but they may also be used for your car. If you want to use a tarp effectively, it's important that you know how to properly secure it.
Choose Your Tarp
Make sure to choose your tarp wisely. Mesh tarps are used for when you must keep rocks and gravel in place. However, heavy duty vinyl tarps are used when you are trying to protect your belongings from the elements. This is one of the more common types of tarps used.
Everything you are transporting needs to be secured. Therefore, if you're transporting something with a tarp, you'll want to wrap the objects you are transporting with the tarp. Tarps are useful because they are large and heavy while still having a structure like a blanket. This makes it easier to keep your belongings safe.
Make Sure Your Tarp is Secure
The great news is that a tarp is not difficult to secure down. All you need is a tarp of the right size and a rope that is long enough and strong enough to secure it. With that, your cargo will be protected from the weather and won't fall out.
Lay the tarp down over the bed of the truck. Allow the excess material to drape over the edges. Pull the tarp until the material hangs over by a couple of feet. The material at the end of the truck should hang over the back by a few feet.
Secure Using a Rope
Run the rope through the eyelets of the tarp and cinch down the load. Make sure that the top part is over the cab and that the bottom part is unwoven. Flip the tailgate up onto the woven part of the tarp. This will keep your tarp in place.
Pull the top part of the tarp and tie it to the woven part. Then, make sure that the tarp is tied down with a rope with tie-down loops that are inside the bed. Luckily most truck beds have three sets of tie-down loops.
When driving on the highway or freeway, make sure to use plastic or wooden dowels to help secure the tarp. Otherwise, the pressure difference will cause you to lose your tarp. When you have this, you'll be able to keep your truck cargo much more secure.
