How To Jumpstart Your Thrift Store Inventory Quickly

One item that people will always need is clothing. Many people, especially when the economy is in a downturn, will often look for deals. If you are the owner of a thrift store, you know how important it is to have good inventory available to clothe families. If your stock is getting low and you need to refill your clothing racks, here are some ways that you can jumpstart your inventory.

Seek out short loans

One of the things that you will need to give your inventory a boost is money. Seek out a short loan that will need to be paid back in a small window of time. Short loans will give you a quick infusion of cash but will not be looming over your head for a long period of time. Having a little extra cash also gives you a few extra methods for getting some quick inventory.

Purchase from a wholesale company

Although you may be a thrift shop, if you want to bring in a lot of clothing all at once, you should consider getting clothing from a wholesaler. Clothing wholesalers often have leftover inventory that they are willing to get rid of at a lower price. Check with clothing wholesalers who may be able to offer several boxes of mixed inventory. This will give your customers plenty to choose from.

Buy during store liquidations

If a store in or near your town is closing, this can be a good opportunity for your thrift shop. Most businesses that are closing will be interested in clearing their shelves and getting as many sales as possible. Speak with the owners or managers of the business about purchasing large quantities of clothing from the closing business. They may be able to give you a good deal. Your thrift store can also advertise that you have clothing available from the now-closed retailer to boost your own sales.

Shop estate sales

Estate sales and auctions are the best ways to find inventory that is unique. If you operate a thrift boutique, take your short term loan and go to estate sales and local auctions. Finding new and exciting pieces that you can advertise in your window may drive in more business. By going to estate sales and auctions, you may get to know those who operate the auctions, and they can tip you off on good sales often to keep your business running.

About Me

Shop Til You Drop: A Shopping Blog

I absolutely love shopping, and I love all of it. I love strolling through open air markets in foreign countries, I like thrift stores and antique shops, and I even like big, busy, florescent-lit malls. Through my experiences, I've truly learned to shop til I drop. More importantly, I've learned how to delay "the drop". That includes everything from packing snacks and choosing meals strategically at the food court, to knowing which questions to ask store employees, to stretching before a long day of shopping. If you want tips on topics from shopping endurance to finding deals, you've come to the right spot. Look around. I hope you find posts that inspire you.
